Those floors though.
Floors are kind of a big deal. Our carpet in our dining room needed to be burned. One day Bryce and I looked down and noticed a GIANT stain and decided to tear up the carpet right then.
We had already made the decision on laminate because of it's durability and knowing this how was too inexpensive to put real or even engineered hardwood in it.
Now is a perfect time to have you picture a breakfast bar right behind that pallet sign! One day.... :)
We pulled up the carpet, the underlayment, the wooden nail strips, swept, bleached (we weren't sure about the cleanliness under there), and pulled up the baseboards.
This part is the most taxing. You need to be sure the surface is smooth when you are finished pulling it all up so the floors lay flat.
When you lay laminate and wood floors, you need an underlayment. This will protect the floors and help with noise reduction. We got an underlayment that had moisture control and a sound barrier put in one. You can buy them separately and lay they on top of each other but this option costs another $5.
We started laying the floors and it was so easy and fast that I almost forgot to take pictures! We did a click and lock floor so you match the pieces together with the tongue and groove and then use the soft mallet to make sure they click and lock!
When we started laying the floors, we found the longest/straightest wall in the area we were putting the floors in because that is the base of allllllll the floors you lay. if it is crooked, all of your floors will be crooked. Remember though - almost every house has crooked walls. They are not perfect. Typically though, the longest back wall and the longest front wall will be parallel. This is okay.
A tip - while the baseboards are up - take them into the garage and give them a fresh coat of paint. It really cleans everything up.
I will upload more pictures as we do additional rooms! We are planning on doing the whole house laminate except for the kitchen and bathrooms which will be tiled..
Since this original post, we have knocked out that wretched half wall and laid floors in the rest of the living room! I have even decorated!!!
